Description
I stopped on the bridge between Harbor and Hunting islands, first because there is room for a car to pull off onto the edge and second because it is gorgeous there. I love the view and have photographed from this spot many times. No matter how many frames I have shot here, I cannot resist as yet another. I just stare out over the water and pristine marsh, river and ocean seem to meet here, letting the wind blow my hair into my face. Cars whizz by behind me but I place myself in a spot where my car is somewhat of a barrier to others driving off the designated roadway. I can hear many slow down, probably wondering what I am staring at.
This egret stand perfectly still even though right in front of it, in the water creatures are active. Small fish, probably minnows jump and splash and I wonder why. What is the sudden activity after moments of complete stillness? And then I see it a puff of mud sudden exploded in the shallow water and the fish flee at top speed. What is doing this? I keep on staring right down into the water and finally I see. Blue crabs, hiding under the mud, come exploding upward, grabbing the poor unfortunate minnows, their friends escaping. The egret seems to watch it all too, the drama of life in the water, with oysters, crabs and who knows what else is down there in the sand and mud.
