Happened to be visiting the Gay Fish Company boat docks after several shrimpboats had come in for the day. On this boat, was a pretty good sized Stingray or skate an animal which apparently got itself caught in the nets for grabbing shrimp. I have been told that some people know how to prepare and eat them. The creatures have a long barbed tail which can do considerable damage if they are stepped on. People say to shuffle your feet when you are in the ocean...that they will simply swim away if they feel you touch them but if they are stepped on and startled they can whip around their terrible barbed tail and impale a leg or foot. Miraculously there are few incidents of this kind reported in this region.
